The Rural Point Elementary music program provides quality music education that focuses on experiential learning in whole class and small ensemble settings. Our positive and nurturing environment allows students to develop a basic understanding of music and empowers them to use music as a means for improving their quality of life.
From Kindergarten through third grade, students sing traditional folk songs and master basic music skills such as, beat, rhythm, dynamics and phrasing. First graders begin learning about music notation, and by the end of their third year can read, write, and play rhythms fluently. Third graders also perform in a full grade level musical.
Students in fourth and fifth grade apply what they’ve learned in the primary grades to the recorder (fourth grade) and ukulele (fifth grade). Fourth and Fifth graders may also sing in our RPES Chorus. All grade levels participate in Song of the Month which exposes students to various genres and musical artists.
