Student Hours
Students may enter the school building between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. There is no adult supervision for students prior to 7:30 a.m. Our school day officially begins at 8:00 a.m.; therefore, any students arriving after 8:00 a.m. are officially tardy. If your child arrives after 8:00 a.m., please park in a designated parking spot, and enter the building to sign him/her in so he/she can receive a tardy pass. A student who is consistently tardy misses vital instruction. Please strive to have your children at school on time daily. It will help to develop a positive pattern for them as they mature.
PARENT DROP-OFF (MORNINGS)
Parents can drop their children off at the cones each morning beginning at 7:30am. Do not allow your child to exit the vehicle prior to a Rural Point staff member arriving at the car loop to supervise our morning drop-off.
- When entering the parking lot, please follow the designated route (marked on the map above) to proceed to the parent drop off loop.
- Students may be dropped off at the designated locations between 7:30am and 7:55am. Students will proceed directly to their classroom.
- If your student arrives after 7:55 am, you must park in the parking lot and walk your child to the front office. A staff member will meet you in the office to sign your child in as tardy. Staff will be on duty throughout the building to assist students with getting to their classroom each morning.
- Please have your child ready to exit the car (backpack ready, goodbyes said, etc.) when you reach the drop off location so that students may exit the car quickly.
- Your child will exit through a door on the passenger side so that he or she will not have to cross in front of cars.
- Drivers should not exit the car in the parent drop off line. If your child needs assistance opening the door, one of the staff members on duty will assist your child. Please do not pull into or through the parking area to drop your child off.
- The tardy bell rings at 8:00 am. At 8:00am, the staff member(s) on duty will close the front doors at parent drop off.
Escorting Your Child Into the School Building
On occasion, parents wish to escort their children into the school building in the morning. If you need to escort your child, please park in the lot in front of our gymnasium. We encourage parents to use the lobby for final “good morning” wishes and allow your children to walk to their classrooms unassisted to foster their independence. Rest assured we have stationed plenty of staff members in our hallways to greet children and assist them as needed.
PARENT PICK-UP (AFTERNOONS)
Each family will receive 4 family tags with your assigned family number. When arriving in the afternoons for parent pick-up, parents should report to Door D4 to show their family number between 2:30 and 2:45 each day. A staff member will be at Door D4 to enter family numbers for dismissal. Please be prepared to show your family number each day for dismissal. After checking in at Door D4, parents will then proceed to Door D5 (Grades K-2) and Door D6 (Grades 3-5) to pick-up their child(ren). This is a safety measure put into place for the well-being of all of our students. If you have a family member or neighbor who will pick up your child(ren), please be sure to give them one of your pick up tags to use the day that they are picking up.
- Dismissal begins at 2:30 pm, so there is no need to arrive prior to 2:25pm.
- Parents will sign students out at Door D4 by showing your family number. A staff member will be on duty to enter family numbers as parents arrive.
- Parents will then proceed to Door D5 (Grades K-2) and Door D6 (Grades 3-5) to pick-up their child(ren).
- If your family has children in multiple grade levels, please pick-up at the door for the oldest child.
- If the person picking up your child does not have the appropriate family tag, the staff member on duty will ask for a photo ID to verify permission to pick up your child(ren). This may cause a delay with our parent pick-up procedure, so please make every effort to have the family number on a daily basis.
Notifying Staff of Changes in Afternoon Dismissal Plans
If you know your child’s typical dismissal plan will be altered, please call the school office at (804) 723-3580. Please do not e-mail or text transportation changes; they may not be seen in time to adjust your child’s dismissal plan.
CHANGES TO TRANSPORTATION AND EARLY DISMISSALS
- Students will not be allowed to ride a different bus home or to a friend’s house. Students may only ride their assigned bus.
- If you need to alter your child’s typical dismissal plan (change from bus or daycare to Parent Pick Up), please send a note to your child’s teacher in the morning. If an emergency arises and you need to make a last minute change, please call the school office at 723-3580 before 2:00 p.m. We ask that you follow up with an email as well. All students picked up at the end of the day will be picked up following the afternoon parent pick-up procedures and not from the office.
- If your child has a medical appointment that requires early dismissal, please send in a note to make your child’s teacher and or our office staff aware. Parents who wish to pick their children up prior to our regular dismissal (2:30 p.m.) should plan to pick up their child before 2:00 p.m.
- Please note that if someone other than the parent/legal guardian is picking a child up early, we must have a note stating that the individual will be picking the child up early that day (even if the person is on the emergency contact/pick up list).
- If you are sending an e-mail regarding transportation changes, you must send the e-mail to the teacher and to the front office ([email protected]). In case of a staff absence, we want to ensure at least one person has received your e-mail communication.
If you have any questions about our transportation procedures, please contact the office at (804) 723-3580. Thank you for your support. We look forward to another safe and successful school year!
