Family and community engagement is vital to our continued success. We invite you to become involved with our school division and experience our rich tradition of excellence first-hand. Whether serving as a volunteer, becoming a business partner, participating on an advisory council, or simply attending one of the hundreds of events held at our schools throughout the year, your support will ensure Hanover County Public Schools remains the leader in public education.
Volunteer
Volunteers are vital to the mission of Hanover County Public Schools (HCPS). We are grateful for all who devote their time and talents to our school division and students, and we invite you to join us!
HCPS uses the Raptor Visitor Management System as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. This system will allow volunteers to apply online and track volunteer hours automatically once you have completed the approval process.
To get started, you will need to complete a volunteer application online (Spanish).
If you have any questions about the volunteer application or other related questions, please contact your school's volunteer coordinator(s).
Not sure how you can get involved? Here are just a few ideas to help you get started:
- Assist teachers with instructional activities and materials
- Chaperone educational field trips
- Read to a class or student
- Help with special projects such as festivals, sporting events, school garden, etc.
- Serve as one of our Watch D.O.G.S.
- Provide clerical assistance in the office and library
- Share expertise on career opportunities
- Serve as a role model and mentor
Lunch Visitors
In an effort to maintain the highest level of stafety possible for our students and staff, HCPS is continuing the procedures for visitors eating lucnh with elementary school students for the upcoming school year.
Parents and Legal Guardians:
Parents/guardians will continue to sign-in using the Raptor Visitor Management System kiosk in the front office to obtain a visitor's badge that is expected to be worn and plainly visible at all times. Parents/guardians may then eat lunch with their child at the designated visitor table.
Other Visitors:
- A written permission note from the student's parent/guardian is required each time a relative or other visitor wants to eat lunch with a child.
- The note must be sent in advance with the student and given to the child's teacher.
- The note must include the child's name, visitor's name, and date of the visit, and it must be signed by the parent/guardian.
- Phone calls, emails, or text messages will NOT be accepted because the sender cannot always be authenticated.
- Visitors are required to sign-in using the Raptor Visitor Management System kiosk in the front office to obtain a visitor's badge. Visitors may then eat lunch with the student they are visiting at the designated table and shall only share food with the student they are permitted to visit. Visitors may not share food with other students.
- Students may not bring others to the table to eat lunch with their visitor, nor may a parent/guardian write a note for their child to join another classmate and their guest at the guest lunch table.
